Why a paper cut list fails in the shop
Every cabinet plan assumes a nominal thickness — 3/4 in, 18 mm, 1/2 in. Real plywood is almost always undersized. When you cut interior parts to the plan's numbers, gaps open up, backs fall out of rabbets, and the outer dimension drifts. A live calculator uses your caliper reading to shrink or grow the interior parts so the outer box stays exact.
